An Introduction to Solo Travel and Adventure Travel

Solo Travel

In my opinon, solo travel is one of the most liberating, empowering, courageous, transformative and educational experiences a person can have in their lives.

Sure, travelling solo can be daunting and at times, really hard. It will push you beyond your comfort zone and cause you to confront some of the toughest parts of yourself, including your greatest insecurities.

But I promise you, what you gain in return is worth much more, and 100% worth it ❤️

I can talk from personal experience.

Between 2016-2017, I quit my corporate job to go backpacking for an entire year and it literally change my life. The personal growth that I experienced was incredible. You can read more about my story here.

However, it is also important not to be naive, as there are both pros and cons of travelling solo.

Before you decide what you want to do, it’s important to do your research – starting first with some of our articles below.

It’s also important to understand that “solo travel” doesn’t mean that you have to travel on your own ALL of the time.

Instead, there are may ways to travel solo whilst in the company of others.

For example, you can:

  • Join a group tour
  • Book a day trip with other travellers
  • Volunteer in local projects
  • Stay in hostels or even couchsurf to meet other like-minded people

Or if you do want to travel entirely on your own – the choice is yours.

Personally, I like to do a combination of the above.

I like to spend a good chunk of my trip travelling completely on my own (especially if in a safe destination) but also enjoy joining group tours and staying in hostels to meet other travellers throughout my journey.

Adventure Travel

Compared to other forms of travel, adventure travel is defined as being a type of tourism that involves one or more of the following things:

  • Physical challenging activities (usually outdoors in nature)
  • A cultural exchange and/or
  • Travel to a remote or exotic location

And now, with more travellers wanting to go off the beaten track, be more eco-friendly and give back when they travel, the demand for Adventure Travel is rising.

If you’re someone who seeks adventure, prefers to live on the edge, wants to be immersed in local culture and/or do wild activities – as opposed to staying in the finest hotels or eating out at the most prestigious restaurants – then Adventure travel could be right up your alley.

And, with a plethora of awesome adventure sports and activities that you can do all over the world, you’re sure to never get bored during your travels – whether you love hiking, skydiving, scuba diving, bungy jumping, rock climbing or even white water rafting.

One of the things I love most about Adventure Travel is how it connects you with new cultures and landscapes, whilst at the same time, being physically active.
