I know it’s insane to think, but Christmas is just around the corner!

This means that we’re back to spending our weekends fluttering around the shops or browsing online to search for epic Christmas gift ideas for our loved ones.

But don’t worry – If your loved one is a fellow travel nut, I’ve got you covered.

In this article, I provide insight to 26 awesome Christmas gift ideas for women who love travel. And although I’ve mentioned women, many of these gifts can suit men as well.

Given many of us are budget conscious at Christmas time (or maybe that’s just me), I’ve tried to group the gifts based on price – Christmas gift ideas under $100, $80, $50 and $30.

You can even use some of the lower-cost gifts for the, often-dreaded, work Kris Kringle.

So without further ado, let’s jump straight into it.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Women Who LOVE Travel – Under $100

If you’re seeking a premium Christmas gift for someone who loves to travel, you’ll be sure to hit the mark with any of these gifts.

As a traveller myself, I can 100% vouch for the value that each one of these would provide when backpacking. (Personally I would be overjoyed to receive anything like these at Christmas).

Some of these Christmas gift ideas are more relevant to travelling or camping (eg. Sleeping bag), while others are great for travelling and everyday use as well (Eg. Noise cancelling earbuds).

Here’s some ideas for inspiration:

1) Noise Cancelling Headphones/Earbuds

My boyfriend had been bugging me for AGES to get myself some of these headphones! And finally, I did it!

I bought myself the Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones and they’re awesome!

I don’t think I could ever go back to the standard cordy iPhone headphones now…

If you’re seeking a Christmas gift idea under $100, bluetooth earbuds can be a fantastic option.

My Sennheiser ones have a price point above $100, so if your budget is maxed out at $100, then they mightn’t be the right option for you.

Here are some other cheaper options you can check out online:

My Sennheiser CX Plus True Noise Cancelling Headphones

2) External Hard Drive

Another great Christmas gift idea for women who love travel is an external hard drive. This is one of the most handy things any backpacker/traveller can receive as a Christmas gift.

Personally, I own two!

External hard drives are great because they allow you to

  • Backup photos from your camera, to reduce the likelihood of losing all your photos if you misplace your camera or it gets stolen abroad
  • Load and store your favourite movies or TV shows, so you can watch them on your laptop and some TV’s as you travel

I can’t count how many times I used an external hard drive during my trip because I loved it so much, especially on the days when you feel like chilling out and relaxing.

They are also great to use in everyday life back home, so you know that they’ll get a lot of use out of it.

It’s also something that is quite expensive for a traveller to buy themselves, especially if travelling for the first time and needing to buy all of their travel gear at once.

I’m sure they’ll appreciate you helping them save money on travel gear.

Here are some great options to check out online:

I own a Seagate 1TB External Hard drive myself and it works brilliantly. I’ve had it for a few years now, with no problems. Can highly recommend.

3) Compact Sleeping Bag

Depending on where your girl is travelling, she may be in desperate need for a compact sleeping bag.

During my big 1-year backpacking trip around the world, I frequently used my compact sleeping bag for a variety of purposes.

A compact sleeping bag can come in handy when:

  • Camping, especially if cold overnight
  • Sleeping in a hostel bed (that you feel isn’t clean). It gives you the ability to sleep comfortably on top of the bedding
  • Can unzip it and use it as an extra blanket when sleeping in a hotel/hostel if cold overnight
  • You have a long stopover at an airport to give some degree of comfort
  • And various other uses…

If you like to shop online, here are some great suppliers and products to check out to suit varying budgets.

BUT, before buying a compact sleeping bag as a Christmas gift, I’d suggest confirming that your friend/partner/colleague doesn’t already have one – to avoid a double up.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Female Travellers – Under $80

Ok, so we’re now up to the $80 or under Christmas gift ideas for women who LOVE travel. Ooo there’s some goodies in here!

As a female traveller myself, I know that I’d LOVE receiving ANY of these gifts for Christmas.

Similar to the gifts above, many of these them are great for travelling, but can also be used for everyday tasks as well.

Here are some ideas for inspiration:

1) Travel Packing Cubes

Travel packing cubes are another fantastic Christmas gift idea for women who love travel.

They help travellers to:

  • Keep their travel backpack organised
  • Save space
  • Separate winter / bulky clothes from lighter clothes
  • Protect clothing from any leaks within the bag or light rain
  • Hide and secure identity documents or valuables
  • Protect fragile items with padding from my clothes

Since learning about packing cubes, and experiencing the benefits for myself, I wouldn’t go back.

I personally own the Shacke Pack Packing Cube Set and they are awesome. Great quality, practical and they look cool too.

My recommended brands:

2) Travel Scratch-off World Map

Now, this Christmas gift idea is AWESOME for female travellers (and men as well).

What better way to track your adventures around the world than by scratching off each place after you’ve been there.

These maps provoke a ton of motivation after you realise just how big the world is and the abundance of places to visit.

I bought the Idea.me scratch off map for myself as a treat after my big world backpacking trip. I found the process of gradually scratching off the foil to see the colour underneath to be immensely rewarding and satisfying.

Honestly a great gift idea for anyone who loves to travel.

Here’s the links to the brand/supplier I bought my map from, as well as another option to check out. The option you choose may depend on whether you think your friend will prefer a white or grey background.

3) Inflatable Travel Pillow

Although not an extremely exciting Christmas gift, it is a very practical one.

Blow up travel pillows get used a lot when travelling overseas. They can be used to sleep more comfortably on flights, at the airport, when camping or even when staying in cheaper accommodation.

Unlike other travel pillows, I prefer inflatable pillows because they can be compacted down and packed away when you’re finished with them, meaning less things to carry.

I recently bought this Hikenture pillow, and I’m so glad that I did!

Compared to other blow-up pillows I’ve owned, this pillow doesn’t feel “plasticy” or slippery at all. It also feels of much nicer quality and offers the following features and benefits:

  • A removable and washable cover
  • Made from incredibly soft materials
  • Features a strap at the back of the pillow so you can secure it on your seat reducing movement while napping
  • It is ultra-light making it perfect for backpackers with minimal space
  • Packs away into an incredibly small and compact carry bag (only 16cm long!)
  • I personally own the grey one, but there are many other fun colours available to choose fro

Given its compact size and price point, it makes the perfect Christmas gift for women and men who love travel.

4) Portable USB Power Bank

Another extremely valuable piece of tech for any traveller is a portable USB power bank.

I personally own a Anker 10000 PowerCore portable power ban. I think it is a slightly older version of the 13000, but it’s been great.

Portable power banks have saved my life on many occasions throughout my travels! Particularly when my phone was almost flat leaving me in very challenging and at times, risky situations.

They’re also extremely useful to carry in your handbag when going on day trips or weekend holidays at home.

There are a variety of different portable USB power banks on the market, however here are some great options to check out online to save you from going in and out of tech stores:

My Anker 10000 Portable Power Bank

5) Bendable Tripod for taking photos on Smartphones and Cameras

A bendy tripod is another great Christmas gift for travellers because it allows the ability to take photos on a smartphone or camera, without having to do an amateur and awkward selfie.

The flexible nature of these tripods is handy because you can attach it to an object or stand it on top of an uneven surface to get the perfect shot. You can also fold and bend it down to fit effectively into your travel backpack.

There are many different tripod products available, but some of the most trusted brands online are JOBY and Goofoto.

Depending on whether your loved one or friend has a smartphone or camera, I’m sure she’ll be delighted with any one of these Tripod packs.

You can read more about them below:

6) Microfibre Travel Towel

If there’s one thing travellers hate, it’s carrying around a damp, space-consuming bath towel.

Rather than a standard bath towel, my greatest recommendation for travellers (based off my own personal experience) is to equip yourself with a microfiber travel towel.

Microfibre (or microfiber) towels:

  • Have antibacterial/antimicrobial properties which help to prevent the build up of bacteria, germs and other bad odours
  • Take up less space and prime real estate in your backpack
  • Are more absorbent, with some able to absorb around 4-5 times their weight in water
  • Are quick-drying, drying 5-10 times faster than a standard towel
  • Can be used multiple times before washing
  • Are made from material is that is soft on sensitive skin

This would make a great Christmas gift for someone who loves to travel, camp, hike or even go to the gym.

These top-rated brands are sure to provide your loved one with a lot of added convenience whilst travelling abroad.

I recently bought the Youphoria microfiber travel towel and am really looking forward to using it on my next trip as it feels like it’s really good quality and is a great compact size for travellers.

7) Water Bottle with Filter

When travelling, especially to remote locations around the world, one of the greatest survival needs is access to clean water.

When you’re from a Western country, you often forget just how lucky we are to have this provided to us in abundance.  Many countries don’t have this luxury.

Whether backpacking or camping, water bottles with an in-built filter or purifier can be extremely convenient. They can also prevent travellers from getting deathly sick throughout their journey – which is obviously a HUGE benefit!

There are many different filtered water bottle options with varying price tags depending on what you’re willing to spend.

Here are some top-rated brands and products that you can check out if this seems like the ideal Christmas gift:

8) Travel Day Backpack

A day backpack is an essential piece of any traveller’s kit and is something that will be used over and over again.

However, you don’t just want any backpack!

For women who love travel, a desirable backpack has the following features:

  • Various compartments and pockets so you can easily separate and organise your belongings
  • A padded laptop pocket (if likely to pack one)
  • Durable double metal zips and the ability to lock your zips together when moving between destinations (preventing pickpockets)
  • Anti-theft properties including hidden zips and lockable compartments
  • A water bottle pocket on the side of the bag
  • Back support or padding making the backpack more comfortable to carry for long periods of time throughout the day
  • Adjustable straps so that they can fit the bag to their body shape
  • Made from water resistant material so that their items won’t get soaked in the event that the weather changes unexpectedly

As you can see there are quite a few things to consider… not just ANY backpack will do the trick.

Here are some great options you can check out online, including one “fancy” option in case ya girl is into fashion and looking stylish.

The Tzowla laptop backpack does look pretty awesome, however I’d say that it’s probably more of a general day pack than a “travel” backpack.

Not sure if it’d be very practical when on the road, and it would make it very easy for pickpockets to access all of your things.

1) Hangable Travel Toiletry Bag

When travelling, especially backpacking, we stay in a whole mixture of places and types of accommodation.

In cheaper accommodation like hostels, it’s not uncommon to be sharing a bathroom. There’s also limited storage, so you often need to carry your supplies with you each time you go to have a shower.

This is what makes hangable toiletry bags great.

Other benefits include:

  • They prevent travellers from having to put things on the ground (after all you have no idea when it was last cleaned and what nasties lie beneath)
  • Travellers can hang your toiletries behind the shower door or on any other hooks available
  • Travellers can store their main bathroom items in one place, rather than having them scattered throughout their bag

When I went on my big backpacking trip oversees, I used an Eagle Creek hangable toiletry bag.

However, being on its last legs, I decided to buy myself a new Bosidu Toiletry travel bag because I loved the look of it.

It’s actually a really decent size – probably a bit larger than I expected. I’m excited to use it on my next travel journey because it has a great variety of compartments.

2) Bluetooth Speaker

Another incredibly convenient and enjoyable Christmas gift for travellers, mini Bluetooth speakers are a great piece of tech to have when abroad.

They allow travellers to listen to their favourite playlists, just as they would back home, providing a great sense of comfort – especially on those days of feeling homesick.

Like some of the other Christmas gift ideas mentioned above, these can also be enjoyed by all genders and in the comfort of your home (not just for travelling).

The advantage of a mini speaker is that it helps travellers to save space in their luggage, rather than carrying around some of the larger bluetooth speakers which are quite bulky and heavy.

Here’s an example of great budget-option mini bluetooth speaker:

3) Mini Jewellery Box

As a female backpacker, carrying any form of jewellery with you can be a nightmare.

Although it’s recommended that you don’t bring expensive jewellery when you travel (because it makes you a target for pickpockets and scams), finding a place to carry ear rings or even standard necklaces can be tricky.

This is where a mini jewellery box comes in.

Personally, I wish I’d known about these a long time ago as they would have saved me storing my earrings etc in my makeup bag or mesh pockets (where they got quite gross and dirty).

If your girlfriend, or friend, loves jewellery then this could be a very thoughtful addition to her travel gear.

I ordered the grey Vlando mini jewellery box

4) Swiss Army Knife

When travelling, hiking or camping it can be a good idea for travellers to carry a Swiss Army Knife, or something similar, in their main travel bag. After all, you never know what situations you’ll get into when travelling.

These multi-purpose knives can be very handy in even the weirdest of situations (eg. using the knife to cut and eat an apple) and don’t take up a lot of space.

NOTE: Just make sure to mention that they’ll need to store them in their main travel luggage, not a day backpack – especially when moving between destinations or site seeing.

Otherwise it could be confiscated, like mine was at the Colosseum in Rome.

The brand below, Victorineox, makes a ton of different Swiss Army Knives.

You can check them out below:

5) Travel Silk Eye Mask & Ear Plugs

Pretty self explanatory, however these small unassuming items can be a godsend when sleeping in shared accommodation (eg. a hostel).

The noises associated with people partying or simply entering and exiting the room throughout the night is the biggest sleep destroyer EVER! Or even worse, someone’s early morning alarm with that god awful siren that we all loathe.

Sometimes you’ll even get people who switch the lights on or off in your room in the middle of the night. Although this sounds disrespectful it does happen, particularly if someone has to get up early to catch a flight.

Having a sleep mask and ear buds will help your travelling friend get the sleep that they deserve, when they need it most.

Here are some top-rated options to check out below:

6) Foldable Beach Bag

If your loved one or friend is planning a trip to somewhere with a beach, I’m sure they’d appreciate a versatile beach bag for Christmas.

But not just any beach bag, one that folds up and packs away of course!

Say what!?

Yep, this foldable tote bag will allow them to pack it away when not using it and offers a nice solution rather than having to take a humongous backpack or handbag to the beach.

7) Beach Sarong/ Silk Wrap

Looking for a versatile Christmas gift? These silk / chiffon beach sarongs could be the ticket.

When travelling, I used a sarong frequently. I used it as an alternative to a big bulky beach towel and also as a wrap after being wet and sandy from the beach.

I find that the sand doesn’t stick to them as much as a standard beach towel and they pack down to a smaller size.

Some sarongs can also be used as a light and casual dress – convenient in hot or humid locations, or even just something to sit on.

Here are some stunning options to check out online:

8) Waterproof Dry Bag

If your friend is the adventurous kind or is going somewhere where there’s a lot of rain, they’ll want to pack a dry sack/bag with them.

These dry sacks are great to put valuables or tech in when likely to get wet (eg. From water sports) or even just as an additional carry bag option (Eg. carrying dirty hiking shoes between destinations).

What I love most about these is that they roll up and can be clipped to the exterior of your backpack when not being used.

Marchway is a very popular and reputable dry bag brand. I have also used these myself and was very impressed with them.

You can check out their many dry bag options below:

9) Headlamp Beanie

Who would have thought that you could combine a headlamp with a beanie? Well these people did.

This item of clothing will save many travellers from needing to carry both a beanie and flashlight/head lamp in their bag.

This Christmas gift idea is particularly valuable for travellers planning a trip to a destination within a colder climate or where they will be camping overnight.

It can be very cold when you need to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom – eg. when camping. Therefore, this beanie headlight combo would be pretty convenient.

10) Fun Snuggle / Lounge Socks

Nothing beats the small pieces of comfort you can take with you while travelling.

Given you don’t have access to your usual luxuries back home, even just a cosy pair of fluffy socks can make all the difference.

Although there is often a running joke about receiving socks or undies for Christmas, these cute fluffy socks have so much personality, I’m sure they’d make an exception.

1) Universal Travel Adaptor

These babies are a fabulous Christmas gift idea for women who love travel, and even for men.

They prevent travellers from needing to carry multiple travel adaptors which helps to save space in their luggage but is also extremely convenient if travelling across multiple continents/regions with varying power sockets.

A universal travel adaptor can also prevent travellers from getting stuck, unable to charge your phone or laptop because you can’t plug it into the local power point.

They are therefore beneficial from a safety perspective as well.

Here’s one of the top-rated and trusted universal travel power adaptor brands you can find online:

2) Protective RFID Passport Holder/Cover

One thing that I always tell people who want to travel solo is that safety should be the #1 priority.

One of my greatest learnings whilst travelling solo was that although most people are kind and have good intentions, there are always those who you need to protect yourself from.

In some countries, people are desperate and will do anything they can to survive. They therefore become drawn to illegal activities, theft, deception and scams to make money.

Selling people’s identities (identity theft) has become BIG money in some countries, which is why you should always take the right precautions and protect your personal information.

RFID protectors help to provide added protection from electronic fraud or scanning of credit card chips.

Here are some top-rated brands that you can check out below:

3) Leak-proof Silicone Toiletry Bottles (compact)

When backpacking, there is nothing more inconvenient than trying to carry your large shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles with you.

They take up a TON of space in your luggage unnecessarily and can be very heavy to take along with you.

Rather than packing huge incompressible plastic bottles, I recommend buying some of these silicone leak-proof squirt bottles.

They can compress when empty and travellers can easily fill them up as they go, making it much easier to carry your favourite shampoo and conditioner whilst travelling abroad.

I recently bought these silicone toiletry bottles from Humangear. They are a great size for travellers, making them a perfect Christmas gift.

I own these Humangear silicone bottles and they are great.

4) Argan Oil for Healthy Hair & Detangling

Similar to the above, Argan oil is incredible for detangling and nourishing dry or damaged hair. It also makes hair look incredibly healthy and shiny.

I own and personally use the OGX brand, as listed below.

Since I discovered it and the positive effects it has on my hair, I have been blown away.

Prior to using this brand of Argan oil, I was a skeptic!

I had used so many different oils, hair masks and even other Argan oil brands and I just never noticed any difference. Whether I had these products in my hair or not, I’d find myself with a tangled mess that would take me AGES to brush out.

Yet, when I add this OGX Argan oil to my towel dried hair, I can truly tell the difference – especially when brushing my hair when dry. Now, I can actually brush out knots and tangles without feeling like I’m tearing my hair out, and without it taking a large chunk of my time.

If your friend complains about having dry, damaged or tangled hair, then this Argan oil could be her white knight in shining armour.

Read more about the benefits of Argan oil below:

5) Warm Winter Sleeping Socks

Similar to the above, it is easy for newbie travellers to overlook the importance of having at least one pair of warm thermal winter socks.

The temperature of our feet really impacts our wider body, therefore it is important to keep them warm.

If your friend is planning a trip to a location with cold winters, particularly those that can reach negative temperatures overnight, they’ll definitely appreciate some thermal socks.

Thermal socks are also incredibly handy to wear to bed or to keep feet warm and dry during the day.

Who knows, they could even make a great Kris Kringle gift for Christmas.
